What you get

Thirty mornings
of real Thai

Textbook Thai is slow and polite. The Thai you hear at the noodle stall swallows half its syllables. This challenge trains your ear on the second kind, one short story at a time.

The 30-Day Thai Listening Challenge is a dated online cohort by Kru Nariss, a native Thai teacher in Koh Samui. Each morning at 07:00 Bangkok time a new story unlocks: one video in three speeds, a three-layer script, a three-question quiz and twenty words added to your flashcards. Cohort 1 starts 2 November 2026.

One story a day, three speeds

A short video by Nariss, first slow, then natural, then fast. Thirty stories from the market to the motorbike taxi, easiest first.

A three-layer script

Thai script, phonetics and English, shown one layer at a time so you check what you heard instead of reading along.

Three questions and twenty words

A quick quiz to validate the day, then the twenty new words go to your flashcards with her audio. Six hundred words by day 30.

A cohort space with Nariss

Everyone starts the same Monday. One discussion thread per story, and a recap video from Nariss every Sunday.

Sample story

Try one story
before you decide

Every story comes with a script in three layers. The first full sample story, slow speed and script included, goes to the list by email.

Sample story

Nariss is recording it. Join the list and it lands in your inbox three days after you sign up, video and script included.

Layer 1

Thai script

What she actually said, in Thai letters. Reading practice for free.

Layer 2

Phonetics

Nariss's own romanization with tone marks, the same system as her courses.

Layer 3

English

The meaning, line by line. Reveal it last, after you have guessed.

A day in the challenge

Fifteen minutes,
every morning

  1. 07:00, the story lands

An email at seven in the morning Bangkok time with the link. Open it on your phone over coffee or on the way to work.

  2. Watch it twice

Once slow, once at natural speed. Two to four minutes. Try to get the gist before you touch the script.

  3. Reveal the script, layer by layer

Thai first, then the phonetics, then the English. You see exactly where your ear dropped a word.

  4. Answer three questions

A short quiz validates the day and keeps your streak going. Wrong answers show you the line to listen to again.

  5. Keep twenty words

The new words from the story go straight to your flashcards, with Nariss saying each one. Review them whenever you have two minutes.

Questions about a story go in its thread. Nariss answers there during the week and gathers the best ones in her Sunday recap video.

Level check

Made for the
stuck-in-the-middle learner

Not sure where you stand? The two-minute listening test gives you a straight answer.

This is for you if

  • You know a few hundred words and can follow slow, clear Thai
  • You freeze when a Thai person answers at normal speed
  • You want a fixed daily habit with other learners, not another course to finish someday
  • You can give it fifteen minutes a day for thirty days

Not the right fit yet if

  • You are starting from zero: build the base first with the Speaking Thai A1 course and the free cheat sheet
  • You already follow Thai TV and podcasts: private lessons will push you further than this challenge

Beginners: Speaking Thai A1 and the free cheat sheet. Advanced: private lessons.

Students

What her students say
about learning with Nariss

I have moved to Thailand and will be living here for the next 5 years. Nariss is the most patient teacher. She smiles when I get things wrong and is constantly supporting and helping. She picks up on the bits I'm finding hard and unpicks it with me so that I nail it. If you want to learn Thai, choose Nariss.
