Thai Listening Practice: Talking About Cooking

Cooking is one of those topics that comes up all the time in Thai conversation. Whether you eat out every day, cook at home, or rely on your neighbors for dinner, you will need the right phrases to talk about it naturally.

This beginner-level listening exercise walks through a short conversation about cooking habits, eating out, and sharing food. Listen to the audio first, then check the script below to see how much you caught.

Practice Tips

  • Listen to the audio once without reading. Try to pick out the cooking vocabulary: ทำอาหาร, ประหยัด, ล้างจาน. How many did you catch?
  • On a second listen, follow along with the romanization to connect sounds to syllables.
  • Read the Thai script on its own and try to translate each sentence before checking the English.
  • Use ใช้เวลา in three sentences about your own daily routine. For example: how long does it take you to get to work, to cook dinner, or to finish a workout?
